There are a lot of store builders out there, but most of them are complicated, expensive or take high fees on your sales.
Ecwid is easy, free and literally takes five minutes to set up. They never take any fees on your sales and allow you to sell in multiple places online, including through your Facebook page.
In this webinar, I am review Ecwid and compare it to other solutions such as Shopify, Woocommerce and Volusion.
I also show you how to create and setup your Ecwid store. I show you how to add your store to your Facebook page, how to create a free website with Ecwid and how to add your store to a bunch of other platforms allowing you to sell in multiple places online at once. Eh, just think of the business opportunity this represents if you work with affiliates or partners.
Ecwid is free for up to 10 products and 2 categories, but offers some incredible extra features in their paid plans, which I will also review, so you can decide what is best for your needs. I will also tell you about how you can increase your business’s revenue thanks to Ecwid.

#1. 5 Minute Setup
I love the fact that it only takes 5 minutes to set up a store and get selling online. If you do not have a website you can use Ecwid’s default starter site to sell online without having to set up and pay for hosting or a domain name – and all that for free. I will show you how to create your modern site later on in this webinar.
#2. Forever Free Plan (Not Just a Trial)
Ecwid offers a free version allowing you to add up to ten products and two categories. This also includes a free website builder, integrations to your Facebook page and the ability to add a store to as many websites you own, or, are affiliated with. Since Ecwid is omnichannel, you can sell in multiple places online while everything is synced in real time to your seller Control Panel.
#3. Feature-Packed Paid Plans
The free version could do the job for some sellers, but if you wish to offer coupon codes, view abandoned carts, offer downloadable products, sell on other marketplaces such as eBay or Google Shopping, then you may want to check out Ecwid’s very reasonably priced plans. Their plans are clear and transparent and Ecwid does not take any transaction fees on your sales. More about that later on in the webinar.

I have worked with Ecwid’s support team many times for questions for my clients or myself. I always received quick and professional service, may that be on their forums, through their live chat or through email. The product is slick and easy to use, as Ecwid has put great focus on design, therefore offering an incredibly user friendly product. Ecwid is especially great for business-focused, non-techy users. No need to be a developer to use Ecwid, literally anyone can sell anything online with their store builder.

I think Ecwid is great for non-techy, small business owners looking to sell online. Of course, be sure to consult local professionals (lawyer, accountant, business council) for more personalized information if necessary. Ecwid is adapted to sell any type of physical product, but is also an excellent solution for anyone selling digital goods like eBooks, music or any downloadable items.
Ecwid can integrate any website, and multiple websites at the same time allowing you to sell in multiple places online while managing all your sales in one spot.
Ecwid offers automatic shipping calculations for Canada Post, USPS and UPS among others, at no additional cost. They also offer automatic tax calculations in their lowest priced plan.
Ecwid offers stellar support and an extremely user-friendly platform. Ecwid can integrate POS solutions such as Vend or Square. And they do not charge any transaction fees or charge bandwidth overage fees.
How to Create an Ecwid Account
Click on the button below to open your Ecwid eCommerce store for free. You will not be required to enter a credit card as Ecwid offers a forever free plan.
So let’s begin with creating your account. Start by opening an account following the link in the button above.
- Click on Sign Up
- Then enter in your information
- Create a password.
- So the first thing Ecwid is going to do is ask you for some more information. You can either skip this form or fill it out. I do recommend that you fill it out because it will tailor your experience in Ecwid for the future.
Once your account is open you will wind up in your Control Panel. This is the onboarding module. It can help you setup your store easily if you do not know how. Of course you will be following these tutorial, so I will guide you through how to setup your store yourself. But if you want, you may also use this tool. We are going to close it for now. Hey, by the way, if English isn’t your first language, scroll down to the bottom of the page and change the language of your Control Panel in a quick click.
So, you can add up to ten products and two categories with the free version of Ecwid. For this example are going to imagine we are selling electronic products.
The first thing we are going to do is create our Categories.
- Under Catalog, click on Categories.
- Add Root Categories and Subcategories depending on your needs. You can illustrate your category with an image and a description if you wish. This is where you can add products to your categories in bulk once your products are created in the future.
Next, we are going to setup Product Types and Attributes. This information concerns most, or all of your products. Click on Settings, and Product Types. In our example of Electronics, we are going to add a Release Year, Storage Size and Color. You will see why this is useful very soon. You can add as many product types and attributes as you need.
Once your categories and attribute types are all created, under Catalog, click on Products. You can create products individually or import them in bulk from another eCommerce system if you would like to quickly migrate to Ecwid.
I’m going to show you how to manually add a product. Click on “Add new product.” Start by adding the photo of your first item. You will be able to add more photos using the Gallery tab later on. Then, add a title, a compelling description and the base price. You can also add photos, video and more. Add an SKU that corresponds to your inventory, and do not forget to add the weights of your product if you plan on shipping it. I will explain why weights are very important later on.
After having filled out all the “General” fields, click on the Attributes tab. We will setup these attributes earlier on. They save you time when writing out product details, as this information will be featured at the top of the product description underneath the photos.
The kinds of Options we can setup in Ecwid are really cool! I explain this more in detail in another video. But here we will simply allow our customers to choose the color they would like to receive. I will also allow them to choose if they would like to gift wrap their purchase, and add a special note. I will show you what this looks like for a customer on your storefront later on.
If you have a paid Ecwid account, you can also automatically sell digital products. It’s an awesome feature that is worth the low monthly cost. This represents a great cross-selling opportunity if you would like to offer eBooks or other forms of digital goods to your clients upon purchase.
Enhanced SEO is also offered in any paid plan.
Related products are just like Amazon’s “people who purchased A also purchased B.” However, they are configured by you and not automatically suggested. Learn How to Build Your Ecwid Store Like a Pro
Setup Your Store in One Day
Would you like to see what your storefront looks like? Go back to your Control Panel home page, and click on “Visit Your Site.” You could also click on Starter Site > Starter Site URL to see your site’s front end like a client who is going to purchase from you. I suggest you always keep this window open to track the progression of your work. By the way, if you do not have a website, you can use this link to sell online as if it were your own website! I will show you how to design your Starter Site later on.
Now that you know how easy it is to create products, we are going to work on configuring your store. Head over to Settings.
Under General, enter all your basic store information. Then click on the Regional Settings tab to set your unit preferences such as currency, weights, dimensions and languages. Ecwid is available in 51 languages on the store frontend, and 21 languages in the backend. That means that if Ecwid can detect your traffic’s language preferences, it will translate everything written by Ecwid in the storefront. It’s really awesome.
Click on Cart & Checkout to configure more checkout options. There are many possibilities here so I am not going to go into detail, but I have a specific video that covers this.
While still under “Settings” click on “Taxes.” Ecwid offers automatic tax calculations if you have a paid plan. You can also configure them yourself by clicking on Manual. For a demo on how to manually setup taxes, please check out the video in the description:
Now click on Mail. This is where you can setup automatic emails that will be sent to your clients. You can activate, deactivate or preview them. Scroll to the bottom of the page to add your logo to your emails and to add your email if you would like to receive these notifications at the same time your client does.
Upload your Logo and add your tax ID under the Invoice tab.
You can create customer groups if you have a Business plan. Customer groups will allow you to segment and categorize your clients in order to offer specific programs or rewards.

Ecwid is constantly updating and improving their platform. Click on What’s New to activate awesome new features.
Once you are done Setting up your store, click on Payment to add payment methods. It takes two seconds to add your Paypal account. All you have to do is enter your PayPal email. This astounds me because just a couple years back setting up Paypal for eCommerce was complex, but Ecwid made it super easy! Learn more advanced Payment setup options in the video below.
Ecwid will calculate the cost of shipping based on the weights you entered on the product page. You can use default shipping costs or add your negotiated company rates. You can also configure specific shipping options on specific products. If you change the options on a product, that configuration will override the global shipping rates that you setup here.
For example, this product will have free shipping, because we specifically configured it to have free shipping. If none of the shipping methods you use can be automatically configured, set your Postal Companies rates using the table.
Reload your store page and check out the changes that were automatically made for you! It looks awesome and is super user friendly.

Create Your Website with Ecwid
You can easily add your brand new Ecwid store to a Wix or WordPress website to take your design and content to the next level. You could also use Ecwid’s Starter site which I talk about later on in this article.
Build With Wix
Wix is a drag and drop website builder that requires no coding, no hosting or development. It is super easy to use and is constantly developed with more features. SEO is excellent and includes mobile editor. Excellent with Ecwid.
Now I’m going to show you how to create a free website with Ecwid, and then add your store to your Facebook page!
Don’t have a website? Then you are going to love this feature! Ecwid offers you a free, SSL protected website. In your Control Panel, click on Starter Site. Click on the Starter Site link to see what your store looks like before you modify it. Pretty cool eh. You can add a Cover Photo, Call to Action, Logo, Testimonial, About Section, Contact information and access to your Social Media accounts.
To customize these sections, head back over to your Control Panel. Let’s start by changing your Starter Site URL. Edit the subdomain name to match your brand. If you decided to keep a free account, your URL will have .ecwid.com in it, but with a paid plan you can change the link to your own business URL. I recommend this to make it look more professional.
Now, let’s edit your site’s content. Click on “Edit Starter Site Content.” All you have to do is edit all the fields. Replace images and texts by clicking in the highlighted sections. You can hide sections by clicking on the Hide Section button on the right.
Save your work once you are done. Refresh the page and enjoy the beauty of the new website you just created!

Setup Your Store in One Day
Create a Facebook Store & Add Instagram Shopping
To add your store to your Facebook page, make sure to have a paid account. Click on Sell on Facebook, then click: Login and Launch Facebook Store. You will be redirected to the Ecwid Facebook App. Accept to connect your store to your account. You will wind up on a page that looks like this. All you have to do here is select your store and configure options. You can choose how products are displayed, and a specific category, or your entire storefront. Then head over to your Facebook page. You will see you have a new tab called “Products.” Your clients can now purchase your products through your Facebook page.
Now I have had quite a few clients who have asked me to change the tab name on their Facebook page, because of language issues or wording preference. If you would like to do so, go into your Page Settings. Scroll down and look for Apps. Find Ecwid. Click on the settings and Edit the tab’s name. Refresh your Facebook page and there you have it.

Ecwid is a powerful, freemium e-commerce platform that can allow you to sell online quickly and easily. I do believe Ecwid is one of the best solutions to sell online, especially if you are a small business owner with no programming knowledge, and notably if you want to be autonomous and manage your online store on your own. As a teacher and entrepreneur, I believe that the most valuable thing Ecwid offers is your online independence as you will probably not be dependant on a web agency or programmer to create, setup and maintain your store. Such people can help you with design if you would like, but you should be capable of managing the rest if you have a minimum interest in managing your online store on your own.
