A field inside a Bitcoin transaction that allows a limited amount of non-monetary data to be stored on the blockchain. It was originally capped at 40 bytes but Bitcoin Core v29 removed that cap entirely, raising it to 100,000 bytes in 2025. Bitcoin Knots maintains an 80 byte limit.
