The pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, whose true identity remains unknown. After publishing the Bitcoin white paper in 2008 and launching the network in 2009, Satoshi withdrew entirely. This anonymity is significant: Bitcoin has no founder who can be pressured or co-opted by authorities. It does not depend on any individual to continue.
