I Tested 10 eCommerce Solutions
Here is my Favourite

Hi there! I want to tell you straight up that you have come to the right place if you are looking for the best eCommerce solution out there. I have tested and reviewed the top 10 eCommerce platforms you can use in 2019 to grow your business and make money online.

I remember when I started selling online independently back in 2013. I had been selling on eBay for half a decade by then, but I was looking to build my own eCommerce site. I had so many questions! I didn’t know where to start. What platform I should choose? How can I setup shipping? How can I be sure yo get paid? Should I have something custom developed or should I go with an existing solution? I did not know where to start, it was very overwhelming!

I was very afraid I would get started with a platform and realize I wasted months because I made the wrong choice. You no longer have to be afraid of wasting time – I did the time wasting for you. I have tested (over) 10 eCommerce solutions since I started selling online and I did find the best one, a hidden gem called Ecwid

I was searching for a platform that would be perfect for small and medium-sized businesses, startups and entrepreneurs like me who had no previous experience selling on their own websitesI wanted to use something that was super easy to learn, required no coding experience whatsoever and could easily integrate any website builder. I wasn’t sure if such a solution existed, but nonetheless I kept searching.

After a lot of trial and error, I came across Ecwid. It was a coach at the business incubator where I was working who recommended I give it a try. I couldn’t believe my eyes! How was it, that after all the research, I had not yet come across Ecwid eCommerce? I was frustrated and excited. Frustrated with the wasted time but hopeful and excited about this hidden gem. Ecwid eCommerce was exactly what I needed. It not only met all my needs, but also exceeded my expectations.

Summary of Top 3 eCommerce Solutions

In the process of my research, I tested over 10 eCommerce solutions. I chose my top rated platforms based on features, price and utility to share them with you in this article. I currently use Ecwid on a daily basis and teach how it works. I personally consider this to be the best and most user-friendly eCommerce platform in 2019.

Their visually-stunning, totally responsive designs make this website builder an wonderful platform. Squarespace offers powerful and user-friendly editor also offers you a wide range of flexibility and allows you to stay in full control of your design.

Also considered to be a dream come true for creative people, Squarespace is powering over 1 million websites worldwide. However, it has some obvious lacks. The support is not truly knowledgeable, it’s not that easy to set up your website and the value for money is just not there.

This platform is quite straightforward in terms of ease of use. It has a clean, nice and smooth interface that lets you set up the entire shop and manage processes.

Installing this plugin is as easy as pie. Using it is also very easy, because it seamlessly integrates with your WordPress site. #6. Volusion

Volusion offers a modern eCommerce platform specially designed to help you scale and grow your business. Inside, you’ll discover a full kit of features that help you streamline the operations side of your store.

As you’ll soon notice, unlike other eCommerce solutions that focus on design, marketing or SEO, Volusion focuses mainly on the operational part of a store, including inventory management, orders and customer management.

Volusion works best for larger companies that have their own marketing and SEO platforms and only need a good and reliable eCommerce platform for the operational side of the business.

Rating

3.5/5

Ease of Use

The dashboard is fairly intuitive, offering a smooth experience that allows you to build your site super easy.

Support

In terms of support, Volusion strives to offer superior services. They focus on personalization and allow their customer support team to stand out of the crowd by offering unique solutions. #7. BigCartel

BigCartel is a fairly unknown eCommerce platform. However, they are going strong in 2019, because they offer a free plan which includes pretty much all you would ever need to scale your business. Even with the pro plan, which only costs $29 a month, you could still manage to grow your business quite a lot without breaking the bank.

Rating

3/5

Ease of Use

This platform is very user friendly. Just like Ecwid, it is perfect for beginners with no coding experience who want to set up their sites pretty fast.

Support

The support team is quite nice and helpful. They will assist you with all your needs

Price

Free/ $29 a month

Pros

  • Quite cheap and affordable
  • Really good features in the basic plan

Cons

  • You are limited to selling only 5 products on the free plan. Conversely, you can sell up to 10 with Ecwid
  • Extremely low level of customization
  • You need to know coding in order to enjoy advanced features

#8. Wix eCommerce

You’ve probably heard of Wix before. If not, you’ve certainly been targeted by one of their advertising campaigns on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram. As an old player in website building software, and a new player in the eCommerce business, Wix has managed to establish themselves as a competitive platform that comes with unique features. They are advertising their services massively, so they managed to skyrocket their customer database in 2018 and 2019.

One of their strongest points is the free trial and super affordable plans. The value for money you can get with Wix is quite incredible. For the price, you gain access to out-of-the-box tools that allow you to build your own store with ease and customize it according to your own preferences. Wix manages to combine functionality with usability. It allows you to easily make your storefront look professional by using numerous templates and instruments. It allows you to build your own forms and leverage numerous marketing features in order to skyrocket your brand.

Wix is a powerful site builder I highly recommend, but still greatly lacks in features and plugins in the eCommerce site. I recommend using Wix + Ecwid to create a powerful website for your business.

Rating

2/5

Ease of Use

Wix is extremely easy to use, just like Ecwid. You’ll love how fast you can set up your website and establish processes. You’ll also love the fact that this platform is on cloud, so you don’t have to install any software or app on your laptop.

However, true eCommerce is lacking. Use Ecwid + Wix to skyrocket your site!

Support

In terms of support, the team behind Wix is more than eager to assist their customers with any issues, including social media integration, setting up the page and resolving any type of issues that appear. Phone support is excellent.

Price

14 day trial / $16.6 per month

Pros

  • No coding needed
  • Secure PayPal connection
  • Numerous inventory tools & product galleries you can use

Cons

  • eCommerce solution is lacking features and plugins. Use Ecwid + Wix to overcome this issue.

#9. Magento

According to the latest statistics from Alexa, Magento is used on roughly 20% of the sites today. However, I do not recommend it unless you can code in PHP. What makes Magento unique is that it is made for PHP programmes and large businesses.

Rating

1/5

Ease of Use

Magento is super hard to use. Don’t even think about using it if you want a simple, straightforward eCommerce or own a small or medium-sized business.

Support

Because most Magento users are medium and large corporations, the support is highly trained to offer complex answers. Larger firms have their own dedicated support staff.

Price

Customized

Pros

  • Powerful for large businesses with big budgets
  • Top SEO and marketing features, including an open-source platform

Cons

  • Extremely expensive
  • Very difficult to use and to understand
  • Requires a team of PHP coders

#10. Custom Development

Lastly, you can build your own eCommerce platform using custom design. You can hire a developer and start from scratch. However, unless you have very specific needs and you want to create a totally unique design that cannot be done with the conventional tools, I strongly advise against going with custom development.

Rating

1/5

Ease of Use

usually a site created with custom code is hard to edit on your own. You will be dependant on the agency you worked with, or the programmer who made your site.

Support

The agency or programmer you worked with.

Price

Extremely expensive

Pros

  • Allows you to have a fully customized site

Cons

  • Extremely expensive
  • Huge costs to maintain the structure
  • You need to find a real expert to build your site

Conclusion

After going through my top 10 eCommerce solutions list, you’ve probably made up your mind as to what solution is the right one for you. If you have never designed a site before, I strongly advise you to try the forever free plan of Ecwid and see how it complements your business needs.

Of course, you could also try other eCommerce platforms, but I’m pretty sure you’ll find out soon enough that Ecwid is the best one for ramping up your SMB without investing a fortune.
